Update to the equipment (and prices) for the Solterra. New hybrid engines are also on the way for the Crosstrek and Forester

Subaru is increasingly focusing on electrification for 2025. Major updates to the model range are planned for this year, with a specific focus on the electric Solterra and the Crosstrek and Forester crossovers.

The latter two, in fact, are expected to receive a new full hybrid powertrain that promises even more efficiency.

Subaru Solterra 2025

The Japanese brand’s first electric SUV has received an update with the 2025 model year with a focus on technology and pricing. The exterior design remains unchanged, while the interior gets a makeover with a redesigned steering wheel, an improved heating system, “one pedal” driving paddles and a driver’s seat with eight electrically adjustable positions.

The powertrain remains composed of two engines for a total 218 PS and a 71.4 kWh battery with a claimed range of 280 miles. Improvements include AC charging up to 11 kW and a new heat exchanger to speed up charging at low temperatures. The Subaru Safety Sense 3 package upgrades the driver assistance systems to include more advanced radar and features such as Emergency Steering Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert.

The Solterra now starts at £52,495 for the Limited version and £55,495 for the Touring. Both trims include 18-inch wheels, full LED lights, electric tailgate, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, 12.3-inch central screen and the Subaru Safety Sense package as standard.

Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

After sales start in late 2024, the Subaru Crosstrek full hybrid will arrive worldwide in 2025. The powertrain is based on the 2.5-litre boxer petrol engine and is flanked by two electric motors (one for traction and one for power generation), with the total power output not being declared.

According to Subaru, thanks to a larger 63-litre fuel tank and 20 per cent better efficiency than the previous configuration, the Crosstrek 2.5 full hybrid offers a claimed range of over 621 miles (1,000 km) in the WLTC cycle.

The system uses a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, positioned under the load bed, which is lightweight and has a high cell density.

Subaru Forester, the model for Europe

The same powertrain as the Crosstrek Hybrid could find a place on the Forester Hybrid, which has already been announced for the American market. Here it will arrive in mid-2025, while in Europe we could see it towards the end of the year.

The Japanese SUV is expected to be equipped with a full hybrid powertrain with the electric part developed by Toyota, by virtue of the collaboration between the manufacturers. We will have more details in the coming months.
