Green NCAP rated the cars tested in 2024: the electric Opel-Vauxhall Corsa wins, here are all the others

Green NCAP, an independent European body set up in 2019 to assess the sustainability of cars, has tested numerous models and given them grades to define whether they are ‘green’ or not. It then publishes an annual ranking of the best in each category.

The ranking, which has just been published for the year 2024, includes 8 models representing as many body styles or engines. Here are the winners.

The ranking includes both Eastern and Western cars, with Hyundai placing two models, as did the Stellantis Group, while the BYD Dolphin is the only representative of the expanding Chinese world. But let’s take a closer look at the results.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 won the ranking of most sustainable large car in the 2024 Euro NCAP tests

The BYD Dolphin was the most sustainable small family car in the 2024 Euro NCAP tests

Of course, electric cars dominate unchallenged, occupying every position possible and imaginable on the podium for small and large family cars, SUVs and MPVs, with the Jeep Avenger looking down on them all. The Opel-Vauxhall Corsa-e, the greenest electric car of all those tested by Green NCAP in 2024, also performed well.

If the electric car is the new kid on the block (albeit just barely), traditional engines are holding their own and, while not achieving the sustainability scores of battery-powered models, they still manage to have a say.

The Honda Civic is the most sustainable hybrid car of 2024

The Jeep Avenger emerged as the most sustainable MPV in 2024

In the Green NCAP tests, the Peugeot 308 took first place in the diesel category (which is declining year on year), while the Volkswagen Taigo was the best petrol car. The Honda Civic 2.0 i-MMD e:HEV Hybrid was also rated the best hybrid car of 2024 in terms of overall sustainability.
