The Renault 5 E-Tech won the title of Car of the Year 2025 ahead of the Kia EV3 and Citroen C3. Seventh place goes to the Alfa Romeo Junior
The Renault 5 has just been voted Car of the Year 2025. The announcement was made during the Brussels Motor Show and sees the ‘retro’ compact French electric car prevail over its competitors by significant numbers, beating the Kia EV3 and the Cupra Terramar, second and third respectively.
The Renault 5, whose votes also include those of the sporty Alpine A290, thus repeats Renault’s success of last year when it triumphed with the Scenic and continues the trend of electric winners.
The sixty members of the European Car of the Year jury, also known as Car of the Year, gave the Renault 5 E-Tech an impressive 353 votes, leaving the Kia EV3 with 291 points and the Citroën C3 with 215 points.

Unfortunately, the only Italian finalist in the race, the Alfa Romeo Junior, came only seventh with 136 votes, surpassed by the Cupra Terramar (165), Hyundai Inster (168) and Dacia Duster (172).
As a reminder, the Renault 5 E-Tech is Renault’s new five-door electric car with a 120 and 150 PS motor, a 52 kWh battery and a homologated range of 194 to 252 miles.
Also just entering the list is the entry version of the Renault 5 E-Tech 40 kWh with a reduced battery, 95 PS power and a range of 186 miles. In Italy, its price starts at €25,000.
Alpine’s sporty A290 counterpart uses the same base to offer more power, speed and performance: 177 or 218 PS for a top speed of 106 mph, a 0-62 mph sprint time of 6.4 seconds and a range of 225 to 235 miles.
