Among the finalist cars for the 2025 edition of the WCOTY are three electrics and many newly presented models

The race for the prestigious World Car of the Year 2025 (WCOTY) award has begun once again this year. The finalists in the six categories have in fact been announced and the date of the awards ceremony of the event (this year sponsored by Brembo) has been made official. It will be held on Wednesday 16 April 2025, during the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Here are all the cars in the running.

After a selection process involving 96 international journalists from 30 countries, the 10 finalists for the title of World Car of the Year 2025 by Brembo (this is the full name) were chosen from 52 contenders. Among them all this year are three electric cars, a sports car, two German thoroughbreds and the timeless Land Cruiser.

Here is the complete list, noting that, again this year, there is no Italian car competing for the prestigious award:

BMW X3 (2024)

Volkswagen Tiguan (2024)

Kia EV3 2024

As every year, the World Car of the Year in 2025 will also include awards for various car categories, of which the lists of the five contenders have been published:

Ford Mustang Dark Horse

Porsche 911 GTS 2025

Mark Schienberg, president of NYIAS, said:

“This award represents a key recognition for manufacturers, given by a jury of the world’s best automotive journalists.”
