“My father is going to crash out if he don’t leave me alone.”

Dealing with a hit-and-run is never fun. It’s annoying having to address the car damage itself, but not having the information from the other driver increases the frustration.

Luckily for a woman whose truck was recently sideswiped by a hit-and-run driver, it was all caught on video.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 259,500 views as of this writing, Kylie (@kyliepartlike) reveals how she confronted her neighbor after she noticed damage to her truck.

In the TikTok, Kylie shares how she discovered the identity of the driver who hit and ran her truck and films herself confronting him.

“My neighbor hit and ran my truck and never said anything. Lucky for my cameras,” the on-screen caption reads.

In the brief clip, Kylie films the ground as she confronts her neighbor.

“How did you know it was me?” he asks.

“Video,” Kylie quickly responds.

Her post includes the video. The truck is parked on a residential street as a red sports car drives past, clipping the side. The other driver slows down for a moment after hitting the truck, then proceeds on their way without exiting the vehicle.

After an accident, it’s vital to get the other driver’s insurance information. In the case of a hit-and-run, this may necessitate you contacting the authorities or, like Kylie, doing a little investigating on your own.

According to Progressive, if you are able to prove that person hit your car, their insurance will cover the damage.

“If someone on the street hits or sideswipes your parked car and you can prove who caused the damage, their insurance should cover you,” the insurance company points out.

If it’s not possible to find the driver or if they don’t have insurance, your insurance may cover the damages if you have collision or uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) coverage.

Without this coverage or the identity of the hit-and-run driver, you’ll be stuck paying for the damages out of pocket.

When your car gets hit while parked, it’s best to follow these steps, per Progressive:

The police report will be useful for insurance claims to make the strongest case possible to get your damages covered. It may also assist with the prosecution, as hit-and-run drivers may be fined, criminally prosecuted, and/or have their licenses suspended.

A word of caution: Don’t chase after the driver who hit your car. Not only are you essentially destroying the evidence of where your vehicle was located when it was struck, you do not know how the other driver may react. It’s best to stay put, collect what evidence you can, and contact the police.

In comments on her post, Kylie said that she contacted both her insurance and the police. The authorities’ response, however, seems to have left a lot to be desired.

“Police didn’t wanna take my report since I got his information on my own even though it was a hit-and-run,” she wrote.

Many people who commented on Kylie’s post were stunned by her neighbor’s reaction to being confronted about the accident.

“‘How’d you know it was me?’ Even without video, that question answered itself,” one wrote.

“The audacity to ask ‘how you know it was me?’” another said

“The way he says it would’ve irked me, so nonchalant,” a third added.

Others pointed out that his car had plenty of space.

“He had the WHOLE ROAD to avoid you,” one commented

“That truck came outta nowhere huh,” a second said sarcastically.

Many weighed in with advice on what she should do.

“If he didn’t give you his insurance, POLICE!!!!” one shared.

In comments, Kylie told viewers that after she confronted him about the accident, her neighbor called her multiple times.

“GUYS HE KEEPS CALLING ME WHY I’M SCARED,” she wrote on Oct. 6.

The next day she said, “HE CALLED ME AGAIN THIS MORNING. My father is going to crash out if he don’t leave me alone….” Later that day, she said he left a voicemail saying that he’d “started the process” of initiating a claim to his insurance company for both their vehicles. “I gave them all your information on the […]  insurance company and everything,” he purportedly said, per a screenshot of the transcript of his voicemail that Kyle included.

Many people think Kylie should not engage with her neighbor and instead should leave the matter to the authorities and insurance.

“He does not need to communicate with you at all at this point. Let the insurance companies figure it out. Don’t discuss it with him,” wrote one.

Motor1 has contacted Kylie via TikTok direct message and commented on the post. This story will be updated if she replies.
